Biography
Durga Lal Shrestha was a Professor of Economics at Public Youth Campus. His primary expertise is macroeconomist and modeling expert and his research focuses different areas such as: agriculture, forestry, education, industrial relations, transportation, communication, energy and private sector development for more than 33 years.Professor Shrestha is Chief of Poverty Alleviation and Economic Development Group at Centre for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA) at present, it is a research centre of Tribhuvan University. Besides, he had served many other responsible positions such as Member of Economics Standing Committee, Chairman of Quantitative Analysis Subject Committee and Member of Scrutiny Board in the Faculty of Management and Member of several Curriculum Development Committees for developing curriculum of Economics for 10+2, Bachelor and Master Level management students. Prof. Dr. Durga Lal Shrestha has also served as an Assistant Campus Chief, Chairman of Quantitative Department, Chairman of Management Research Department and Chief of Extra Curricular Activities Department in Public Youth Campus. He has served Public Youth Campus as a faculty member in 1978 and retired from this campus in 1999 and joined CEDA, TU. He has conducted the research on “Electricity Pricing in Nepal” for Department of Economics, University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway. June 2001 and presented a paper on: “Role of input-output analysis in national income accounting and economic analysis” in “Inception Seminar Strengthening the National Accounts System in Nepal” Organized by HMG/N Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and Asian Development Bank (ADB), Hotel Himalaya, Purchwok, Kathmandu May 6, 2005.
Dr. Shrestha worked as an advisor as well as a national consultant in many national level studies and periodic plan formulations (Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Five Year Plans) in National Planning Commission, input-output model expert in the formulation of Energy Perspective Plan in 1994, macroeconomist and modeling expert for Water Resources Strategy Formulation Study –Phase I in 1996, Phase II in1999, and Phase III in 2004. Besides, Dr. Durga Lal Shrestha was involved in many research studies of different areas such as: agriculture, forestry, education, industrial relations, transportation, communication, energy and private sector development at different capacities. He also worked as national consultant in some projects supported by World Bank, ADB/N and UNDP/N. He was also Senior Visiting Research Fellow in Bergen University at Bergen in Norway for three months in 2001.
In 1990 Shrestha earned a Ph.D. in Department of Mathematical Economics, Moscow Institute of National Economy, Moscow, USSR, 1990. He also received M. A in Economics from Department of Economics, TU, Kathmandu in 1977. Prof. Durga Lal Shrestha’s dissertation title was “Application of Optimized Dynamic Input-Output Model for Forecasting of Economic Development of Nepal”.
